1919 - Superb Ercole Barovier Rugiadoso Bowl |
Excellent example of Ercole Barovier's experimental "rugiadoso" technique, in which "the internal surface is iridescent and sprinkled with ground glass. The 'dew' effect is achieved by applying ground glass particles and gold leaf to hot colorless glass. Re-heating of the object ensures its adherence to the surface" ("Art of the Barovier," Marina Barovier, p. 144). Squares of gold fused into the interior further highlight the technique. The outside of the shell shaped bowl is smooth and slightly iridized. An important, circa 1940s signature creation by Barovier.
This large bowl measures approximately 9.5" in diameter, and 4" tall. In excellent condition. The glass has a very slight pink tint. Unsigned. Examples of this bowl can be seen in "Art of the Barovier," Marina Barovier, p. 144 & 145. |
